However, patients could suffer damage to their vocal cords or lungs if the tube is not properly placed. According to the Avanos Medical recall announcement, there were 60 injuries and 23 deaths of patients in the last year due to improper placement of nasogastric feeding tubes while using the CORTRAK* 2 Enteral Access System.
